The Long Road to Baby is a BBC Radio 4 podcast series from 2018 by journalist Sophie Sulehria and her husband Jonny. It documents their post-IVF exploration of routes to parenthood, including adoption and fostering to adopt – and even the possibility of a child-free life.
Across ten short episodes, Sophie and Jonny move from their IVF audio diary into wider routes and decisions. Topics covered include donor conception, adoption, adoption from overseas and fostering with a view to adopt. Alongside this, they touch on the impact on friends and family, the ‘male factor’ in infertility and honest thoughts about choosing a child-free life.
