Instant Family is a 2018 comedy-drama about parents who adopt a sibling group of three children. It’s inspired by director Sean Anders ’ real experience of adopting through foster care and stars Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne, Isabela Merced and other renowned film stars.
Pete and Ellie decide to adopt and are matched with a teenage girl and her younger brother and sister. The film blends humour with honest scenes about introductions, contact and the emotional load for everyone involved.
Whilst based in the US and on the US system, it’s a relatable entry point that shows assessment nerves, matching doubts, sibling dynamics and early days at home.
