Supporting the development of children’s identity through childhood and into adulthood – Friday 26 November 2021, from 9.30am – 2.30pm

Scott Casson-Rennie and Al Coates MBE are back for their online Annual Conference, and Adopt London is pleased to offer 50 FREE tickets to Adopt London families. You can attend if you have children placed with you, are approved adopters, or are in Stage two of the assessment process.

What is the event about? Throughout the day, Al and Scott welcome guests who will share their personal and professional experiences. Together they will consider how adoptive parents can support the development of children’s identity through childhood and into adulthood. They will have a great line up of individuals with personal and professional experience.

Shania Ives – Adoptee and aspiring Clinical Psychologist. Shania will share her experience and perspective on issue of identity and adoption.

David Benjamin – Trauma therapist and Adoptee. David will share his professional perspective and personal experience of the impact of trauma on identity formation for adoptees.

Vicki McKeown – Trauma therapist and social worker. Vicki will share her perspective on how adopters can support children to develop a healthy view of self and reconcile early life experience, complex life stories and dislocated family members.

Julie Young – Senior Research Associate at University of East Anglia. Julie will share lessons from research on post adoption contact and its influence on identity formation in adoptees.

And of course, Scott Casson-Rennie and Al Coates MBE – Adoptive parents Scott and Al will share lessons from their experience as adoptive parents as well as consider the impact of life story work, social media, popular culture, sibling relationships and more on adoptees’ identity. As always we expect it to be a thought provoking and interesting day for all adopters and prospective adopters who would like to attend.

Why attend this event? It’s an opportunity to hear from individuals who understand adoption and have experienced adoption first hand! It’s interactive or you can just listen in. You can stay the whole day, or just dip in and out. Al and Scott keep the sessions fresh, informal and very informative.
