Have Your Say: Help Improve the Adoption Journey

Adoption England is inviting people who have previously considered adoption to share their experiences through a new national survey open until Friday 27th November.
“Whether you decided not to proceed, paused your adoption journey, or moved to another agency, your experience matters. By sharing your feedback, you can help Adoption England improve the adoption experience for future families and the children who need them.”
Your Experience After Enquiring About Adoption
If you have ever made an enquiry about adoption with a local authority, regional adoption agency or voluntary adoption agency, but decided not to proceed, paused your journey, withdrew during the process, or ultimately adopted through a different agency, Adoption England would like to hear from you.
Your feedback will help shape and modernise future adoption practice and services across England.
The survey aims to better understand the experiences of potential adopters who did not progress with the agency they initially approached. By listening to a wide range of experiences, Adoption England hopes to identify what worked well, what could be improved, and how adoption services can better support families from their very first enquiry, with the aim of encouraging more people to continue their adoption journey.
At Adopt London, we are proud to support this important national survey. As four regional adoption agencies working with families across 24 London boroughs, we are committed to listening to the experiences of prospective adopters and using that feedback to continually improve the support and service we provide.
We are particularly keen to ensure London residents who have enquired about adoption but chose not to continue their journey, paused the process, or moved to another agency are heard. Understanding these experiences will help us identify what we do well, where we can improve, and how we can better support people from their very first contact with adoption services.
By sharing your experiences, you will help Adoption England build a national picture of why people disengage from the adoption process. The insights gathered will help develop and modernise Adoption services, strengthen the support on offer, and improve the experience for future potential adopters.
Whether your experience was positive, challenging, or somewhere in between, Adoption England would like to hear from you.
The survey explores:
- Your experience of the adoption process
- Any barriers or challenges you encountered
- How the process made you feel
- What might have helped you continue your journey
- Whether the process met your expectations
- How adoption agencies can improve the experience for future prospective adopters
The learning will be shared nationally with local authorities, regional adoption agencies and voluntary adoption agencies to help improve practice across the country and support more individuals and families to consider adoption.
The survey is anonymous and confidential and takes approximately 10-14 minutes to complete. Every response will contribute to a better understanding of people’s experiences and help shape future improvements to adoption services. Take Part Here – https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/NXLPVL5
Your insight could help improve adoption services for future families and, ultimately, help find loving, stable homes for the children who need them most.
Thank you for supporting this important piece of work and helping Adoption England and Adopt London learn from the lived experiences of prospective adopters.
