Culture Club take on the West End’s Hamilton!
What a way to kick off our first Culture Club outing! On a hot, sunny afternoon, the Culture Club crew headed into London’s West End to see the incredible theatre production Hamilton – and what an experience it was!
For our Black and mixed Black adopted young people, seeing a show with a powerful Black cast taking centre stage was something really special. Hamilton brings history to life through music, storytelling, hip-hop, R&B and incredible performances. Seeing Black talent celebrated on one of London’s biggest stages gave us a chance to think about representation, identity, culture and what it means to see people who look like us owning the stage.
But most importantly… we had FUN! 🙌🏾
Charmaine Miller, Programme Lead and the team spent the day with the young people, enjoying the show, sharing the excitement and making memories. And then came an extra-special surprise – after the performance, there was a Q&A with the theatre team – actors, lighting, sound engineers and front desk staff – giving the whole audience the opportunity to hear from the everyone involved and ask questions. What a way to finish the day!
Huge thanks to the organising team for making this amazing experience happen and for supporting the young people throughout. Watch our short film on Instagram
What is Culture Club?
Culture Club is a social group for Black and mixed Black adopted young people. We meet most months on a Saturday afternoon in East London, bringing young people together to chill, connect and build friendships with other adopted young people.
At the sessions we explore Black culture, identity and belonging, and young people can talk about adoption if they want to – but there’s no pressure. Sometimes it’s simply about meeting up, having fun and being around people who get it.
We have different activities and events, or you can just come along and chill in the youth club.
New members are always welcome! If you’re a Black or mixed Black adopted young person living in London and want to meet other young people, come and join us.
If you want to know more, head on over to our Activities for Young People’s page and email Charmaine Miller on [email protected] to get involved.
