Radish – a child’s story about adoption

4th February 2020 Blog

Radish by AJ Oliver

This is a book about a little hare and his adoption story, beautifully written by AJ Oliver.

The book is a journey from a chaotic and harmful home life with his birth family to his new family – and all the characters he meets along the way. There’s Sparrow; his social worker, Barney, the wise owl (and judge) and Flat Feather Duck, his foster carer.

This beautifully written and illustrated book tells Radish’s story from his point of view; the sadness and fear in his birth family, the unfamiliar home of his foster carer – which he eventually grows to love and the final move to his new adoptive family.  This real life story is based on the writer’s son’s experience. Having not found any books that really helped to start ‘the adoption conversation’ AJ Oliver wrote one. So now adoptive parents who want a gentle way to start or restart their child’s adoption story, could begin right here.

This book is a helpful to most adoptive children, depending on their adoption journey, and adoptive parents, foster carers and professionals can read the book with a child, as a way to introduce or remind children of their story. Whether it’s a book to read each night or saved for certain days, it’s a touching story for any child.

A donation from each sale will go to Adoption UK.
