When adoptees become parents with Professor Beth Neil

Professor Beth Neil talk draws on findings that explore the experiences of adopted adults who have become parents. Most participants had been adopted from care and many had experienced high levels of early childhood adversities, adoption-related losses, and, over the years, numerous life challenges.
Alongside the presentation of the study’s findings, Claire (adoptee and founder of How To Be Adopted – a support organisation for adoptees) and Daniel (adoptee) share their personal experiences and how these relate to their own adoption experiences. They also offer suggestions that can help support adoptees as parents.
Beth Neil is a professor of social work at the University of East Anglia in Norwich (researching adoption for 28 years). This research is an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded study.
