New Dates Released for the Adopted Young Adults Transition to Adulthood Project

10th March 2026 News

Becoming an adult is a big step for anyone — but for adopted young people, the transition from teenage years into adulthood can bring unique questions, challenges, and emotions. That’s why Adopt London created Transition to Adulthood Project, a support group designed specifically for adopted adults aged 18–24 who live in London.

Adulthood isn’t just about age. It’s about building confidence, planning for your future, and knowing where to find support when you need it. These monthly sessions provide the opportunity to meet other adopted young adults, make new connections, access advice, and talk openly about the experiences that matter most to you.

Why Join the Group?

Young adopted adults who have attend have said the group has given them something they have rarely experienced before — a space where adoption is understood without explanation:

“It helps me feel less alone and understood by others who share similar feelings.”

“This is the first time I’ve ever been amongst people with similar experiences.”

“I can be open without fear of judgment.”

“It’s comforting… EVERYONE understands!”

“Inclusive – mutual experiences and empathy. Camaraderie.”

“It’s good to feel part of a group.”

For many, simply being around others who “get it” has provided reassurance, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

What the Sessions Offer

Growing up doesn’t have to mean doing it alone. By joining the Transition to Adulthood group, you will:

  • Meet other adopted young adults
  • Build connections and friendships
  • Access support, information, and guidance around adoption‑related topics
  • Gain confidence in making ‘big and little’ decisions about your life
  • Understand your rights and options as you move into adulthood
  • Feel part of a community that values and understands your lived experience

What to Expect at the Venue

The group meets in a relaxed, informal meeting space where you can feel comfortable to talk, listen, or simply be present. You can also expect:

  • A space specifically for adopted young adults aged 18–24 to share stories and experiences
  • Around 7 people currently attending each month, with plans to grow to a maximum group size of 12
  • Meetings held at a venue near London Bridge
  • Facilitation by a social worker (who is an adopted person), and a psychotherapist (who is an adoptive parent)
  • Occasional guest speakers — for example, an adopted adult has previously joined to share their experiences
  • Discussion may be on any adoption‑related topic chosen by the group e.g, the group recently explored the Adoption and Permanence Adoptee Voices Inquiry Report together
  • Light refreshments are always provided.

Optional WhatsApp Group

There is an optional WhatsApp group for social connection. This group was recently set up by the adopted adults themselves, and is available for members who wish to join and who use the platform.
