At Adopt London South we understand that adopted children have often had a difficult start in life and can struggle with relationships, making sense of their past and making attachments to their family and routines. We have a Post Adoption Support Team who aim to review and triage all referral forms within four weeks and signpost you to the most appropriate support.

How We Support Our Adoptive Families
Support from Adopt London South
Once you have contacted us we will refer you for one of the following services: (Please note that the services provided during the COVID-19 Pandemic will be virtual, so as not to put anyone at risk.)
- Localised outreach clinics by appointment only (up to 8 sessions].
- Adopt London South Advice & Consultation Service
- Access to support packages from PAC-UK and / or therapeutic support from Adoptionplus by calling the Adopt London Helpline delivered by PAC-UK on 020 7284 5874 (open Monday to Saturday 7.00pm to 9.00pm) or the PAC-UK regular Advice Line on 020 7284 5879 (open Monday, Tuesday and Friday 10.00am to 4.00pm and Wednesday and Thursday 2.00pm to 7.30pm).
- Themed Workshops & Training including the Great Behaviour Breakdown (GBB), Saturday Workshops and Adopter led workshops such as Attachment Sense Sensory and Life Story work.
- One-off consultations with a psychotherapist by referral.
- Adopt London South Transracial Support Group for adopters with children, prospective adopters without children and adult adoptees.
- Signposting (and referral where necessary) to appropriate services and or support groups.
Our Post Adoption Support Team endeavours to provide a respond to your needs within four weeks. However if your circumstances become more difficult please call us and request a consultation with one of our experienced social workers.
We prioritise existing Adoption Support Funding (ASF) applications for further funding to minimise disruption to current therapies where this is appropriate and continues to meet your family’s needs.
Support from our Partners
We Are Family
We Are Family (WAF) is an independent adoption support community that operates in and around London. Membership is free and open to adopters and approved prospective adopters. You can join here They run peer-to-peer (i.e. parent-to-parent) events such as parent support groups, playgroups, family meet-ups, parties and socials. They also provide many opportunities to connect online, such as local group meet-ups on Zoom, webinars, blogs, a private Facebook group and other member resources on their website All events are designed and run by adopters, on a voluntary basis. Rather than offering advice, they offer community. They say it takes a village to raise a child. WAF wants to build those villages.
New Family Social (NFS) offers a peer support network to LGBTQ+ adopters, offering advice at every step of the way. They provide online forums which are a great way to seek comfort or advice and perhaps gain a different perspective from other adopters and professionals. Their LGBTQ+ members can seek support anonymously from others in the same situation. With thousands of members across the UK the network is never short of parenting advice. NFS can also offer a triage service for families who feel that they would benefit from immediate advice.
Support for families from your local authority
If you need any education advice, please contact your home Local Authority and ask to speak with the Virtual School Head Teacher.
A range of local agencies including education, health and social care provide guidance, advice and signposting via online services such as the Family Information Service and the Local Offer.
If you are experiencing violence and aggression, or if you are worried about your child’s safety and welfare or if you are concerned about substance misuse, gangs or child sexual exploitation, please contact your local children’s social work Multi Agency Support Hub (MASH) or Single Point of Access/Contact (SPA/SPOC) to discuss your safeguarding concerns.
We have attached here the contact details for the Virtual School Head Teachers, the Family Information Service, the Local Offer and your local safeguarding team in each of the nine local authorities we cover.
